500 Pt 6th edition battle

Good morning fans!

Today I am posting a battle report.  A few weeks old, but this is my first 6th edition game and my first game in the league! I was super excited because on paper sixth edition looks to be the BEST edition of the rules yet!  Without further adeu...

Below pictured is my army.. 500 points.

Below pictured is my opponents army.  The Salamanders.  Lots of respect for my opponent.  Both of our first games of 6th edition.

Below is my squad of boyz charging a tactical squad of Space Marines Salamanders.  It is turn two and I declared my WAAAGH on him.  Fleet of foot is really nice for re rolling charge distance.

Turn two, charing against his dreadnaught.  I didn't want him to keep popping round off me.  Unfortunately this brute didn't want to go down without a fight so he held me off for 3 turns while I glanced him to death.

Turn three- His Sergeant challenged me to single combat and lost.  After my boyz killed a few of his marines he used "and they shall know no fear" and retreated.  Next turn his marines opened fire on mine and rapid fired their bolters rather than deny me the charge.

My Warboss finally enters the fray.  He single handedly destroyed this entire squad over the course of two turns.

After the tactical marines defeat my first squad of boyz, my survivors killed the dreadnaught and regroup on my warboss.  This is the final turn of the game (turn 4) and my opponents last space marine left standing.  Obviously, he stood no chance and in this capture points mission, I killed his army to the last man.  At least he had honor.

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen!  6th edition is wonderful!  Random charge works EXCELLENT with WAAAGH and fleet of foot.  I closed the distance quickly with it and was engaged in close combat by turn two.  I am going to continue to run a horde army list in the 1000 points that is to come.  But I am going to run a Big Mek to give a cover save!!!!  This would help greatly.  The mission called for night fighting which saved my ass.

Thank you again for viewing.  Hope you enjoyed it.  I will be a lot more in depth for the 1000 point battle.  So far I have an undefeated streak with my army.  More pictures coming tomorrow.  I am almost done painting the army.

How to Paint Checker Pattern Designs Freehand

Good afternoon everyone!

Today I am going to show you how I personally do freehand checker designs.  I get a lot of compliments on my technique and a lot of people just assume it's too hard or they can't do it.  It's really not!  It just takes patience and a semi steady hand.  And remember practice makes perfect.
  • Step one- basecoat the area you want to be checkered.  In this case I chose a white background on a Nob Power Klaw.

  • Step two- draw a grid pattern on the area before you fill any squares out.  This will be your outline on where you should fill in the squares.  Don't worry if the line is too thick at first.  Just thin the paint slightly and continue with the line.  Where the paint is thick you can just fill that part in with black or whatever color the checkers will be.

  • Step three- fill in the lines.  Patience and a steady hand here will help out greatly.  Don't stress if you go out of the lines.  You will most likely have to go back and clean up some of it anyway.  Just reapply the base color if you go over any square and make it all look dress right dress.

  • Step four- clean up.  Clean up any mistakes you had where any squares were too big or too small.  It's not required but it's definitely more pleasing to the eye if you do so.

And there you have it!  I hope this helps anyone who loves to show off their free hand work or who is aspiring to get better at it.  I will be going over dags and flames next time around so stay tuned.  Thanks for looking!

500 pts base coated!

Hello again!

Just a quick progress update on my Bad Moonz Ork army for the escalation league.  I have until Sunday to paint 41 models. 40 boyz, 1 warboss.  I will save the warboss for last.  Probably won't be able to finish him by next Saturday.  I like to take my time with the models I want to be centerpieces.  Meanwhile, here are my Boyz!

That's the test scheme of how I want the army to look.  I thought it turned out great, so I went ahead and did the rest of the army in the past two weeks in similiar basecoat.  I singled out one, and there is the finished product.

I decided to go ahead and do ten a time.  At the stage there are at, it only takes about an hour, hour and a half to finish a model (excluding bases).

For some reason the quality of this picture wasn't that good... but there are 4 painted up to the high tabletop stand that I want the entire army to look like.

And there you have it.  I have a battle report at 500 points for 6th edition that was pretty fun, and shots of my empire army for the esclation league.  I just want everyone to know now that 6th edition of warhammer 40k is the near perfect form of the way the game should be.  Now if the Codex books are in line with this book, then Games Workshop will have a long properous future.

Thanks for reading!

Warhammer 40k Escalation League

Hello again!

Our local Games-Workshop has started an escalation league and I signed up my Orks.  I have had most of the models for years just never got around to painting and finishing the project.  This is a great way for me to have serious deadlines for me and to see if I can realistically meet project deadlines.  Our first month is 500 points.  I have built the following list:

HQ
Ork Warboss- Boss Pole, Eavy Armor, Attack Squig, Twin Linked Big Shoota, Power Klaw, Cybork Body

TROOPS
20 Ork Boyz- Stikk Bombs, Nob (Eavy Armor, bosspole, power klaw)
20 Ork Boyz- Stikk Bombs, Nob (Eavy Armor, bosspole, power klaw)

It's a small force but I think a lot of the marine players that signed up will be quickly overwhelmed by the green tide.  I further plan on adding even more boyz and possibly a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field.  Following are early photos of the army in mid progress.  Later I will add more photos of progress today.  The deadline to have it painted is 1 September 2012.  Enjoy the photos.

500 Point Ork Army.  Two squads of 20 boyz and one Warboss.

Squad of 20 Boyz with Nob armed with Power Klaw and Boss Pole

Squad of 20 Ork Slugga Boyz with Nobz

Over half the army is extensively kit bashed and converted from  Assault on Black Reach Ork Boyz and Nobz.  This is just an example of some of the conversions.

This Ork started as Assault on Black Reach.  With a little bit of green stuff and bitz from both the Ork Boyz and Storm Boyz kits, he has become something totally unique and breaks the boring poses that 20 boyz can have from the starter set!  The Games Workshop plastic kits are very versatile.

Just a shot of my work station and the boyz getting yellow done to them.

Thank you for looking!
